It is so enjoyable to get a peek into the past by looking at old photos.

CHILDHOOD DOLL PHOTOS - PAGE TWELVE

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Not the clearest photo, but Sherry wanted to share a fond memory of sitting next to her grandpa while holding the Little Miss Fussy doll he gave her for Christmas 1964.  The battery operated doll was made by Deluxe Reading and would drink, wet, cry, kick and fuss when she needed her diaper changed.  A lasting gift, Sherry still has this doll today!!

Laurie and her Aunt Shirley take a break from playing with Laurie's new Barbie dolls, to pose for this photo.  Picture was taken in 1962 so these are some very early Barbie dolls.

Here is Laurie a few years later, in 1967 with an unknown crying baby doll.    Looks similar to Horsman Thirstee type dolls, but it is pretty typical of the baby dolls of this era.  Since this is a Christmas photo, the doll is probably wearing her original clothes.  The dress looks white with a red sash and red hair bow.  It appears she may have a pacifier in her mouth.  Any suggestions?

Christmas 1961, Emilie and Melvin are all dressed up and ready to go (to grandma's?).  Emilie proudly displays her new Mattel Chatty Cathy doll. Chatty appears to be wearing the blue party dress #681 with the bolero top.

Cathy, meet Cathy.  Don't these two look alike?  Here is another little girl receiving her very own Chatty Cathy doll.  This Chatty is wearing the same outfit as the one in the photo above.  Only two outfits were available with the first release of Chatty Cathy, this blue party dress, and a two piece red sunsuit dress with voile overlay.

No date or info on this photo but it is probably from sometime in 1950s.  This sweet little girl is giving her Nancy Ann Storybook doll a ride on her wooden rocking horse. The doll wears a fancy full gown with a large brim felt hat.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It's bedtime, and this sweet little girl is ready to turn in and snuggle up with her best buddy.  Though the doll looks very much like Shindana's Tamu, she is actually their "Dreamy Dee Bee" doll.  She is dressed in her original animal print sleeper.    This is the earliest version from 1969.  Shindana Toys was a Division of Operation Bootstrap, Inc.

Perhaps you have a treasured photo of yourself, or a loved one, with a childhood doll,  that you would like to include on this page.  It could even be a photo of an unidentified child that you stumbled across in an antique mall, like some that I've included.  What is important is that there be a doll in the shot and it be somewhat vintage.   If you have a CLEAR photo that you would like to add to the page, email me to get instructions on sending it.
